FORMERLY THE GINGERSNAP DRESS BY GEORGE AND GINGER. A number of changes have been made, such as increasing the ease at the chest for a more relaxed fit, and adding baby sizes (0-3m through 12-18m). Purchasers of the previous version can get a 50% discount off the regular price by using the last word (not including the footer) on page 2 of the instructions file. Enter the word in the discount code field at checkout, all in UPPERCASE letters, with no spaces.
The Emilia Dress is a mini dress (hitting well above the knee at center front and back) that looks great with leggings, or on its own as a dress for those who are comfortable with the length.
The loose and flowy fit is very stylish and lends itself to a “grow” style—being worn for years, first as a mini dress and then as a tunic. There is a grow cuff option for the long sleeves, allowing them to be folded up at first and then unfolded as the child grows. Other sleeve length options include short, elbow length, and sleeveless.
PLEASE NOTE: This style is not recommended for crawling babies. It works well for immobile babies and walking children, so all baby sizes have been provided since developmental stages come in all sizes.
This pattern comes with LAYERS, so you can print only the sizes you need. It prints on both letter and A4 size paper, and can be assembled either by trimming the pages, or using the trimless guidelines to overlap the pages. The file bundle also includes a large format A0 file for copy shop printing, AND a projector file for those who are equipped to project patterns directly onto fabric.
Any jersey knit fabric with at least 50% stretch will work for this garment, but it looks best in a fabric with good drape, such as lightweight jersey. Rayon spandex, bamboo lycra/spandex, or double brushed polyester are great options. 2 or 4 way stretch will work for the body, but the bands should have 4 way stretch and excellent stretch recovery.
NOTE: Drapey fabrics with high amounts of vertical stretch will hang lower when wearing this dress. I do not suggest using these types of fabrics for newly walking toddlers who may trip on the sides.
The dress trim can be made in any type of fabric, including cotton woven, silk or knit.
